Connecting with Sensation

Connecting with Sensation combines breathwork, somatic-based improvisation exercises, and opportunities for contact improvisation to facilitate playful exploration of authentic movement. The class starts with a guided warm-up – incorporating elements of meditation, Gyrokinesis, Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement), and Limon modern. After bringing awareness to our mental focus and physical alignment, participants will receive prompts to explore their weight and momentum with a heightened awareness of their physical sensations. For example, participants may be guided through different ways to shift their weight between feet, then expand those pathways throughout the body, and then associate those pathways with different verbs (float, stumble, sink, bounce, etc.) Successive prompts will explore how weight and energy can be passed between partners and, eventually, among the entire group. The class will conclude with a wind-down meditation to re-ground, establishing a sense of closure and safety.

Commercial Jazz Dance

Take your jazz skills to the next level with this high-energy commercial jazz class! This class blends jazz technique with the stylistic edge of commercial dance, seen in music videos, concerts, and stage performances. Dancers will explore complex jazz choreography, focusing on sharp isolations, intricate footwork, strong dynamics, and expressive movements that command the stage. We’ll warm up with technical exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and alignment, then dive into upbeat combinations set to popular music. This class is perfect for building confidence, precision, and personality in performances.
